What Are My Breast Implant Options?

You have several breast augmentation options to consider when planning your surgery and

Your breast implants are customized according to your aesthetic desires and body frame.

Implant Materials:

Saline implants: Sterile saline is encased in a silicone shell. These implants are round in shape and smooth in texture.

Silicone implants: Silicone gel is encased in a silicone shell.

Implant Shapes

Implant Shapes:

Round implants: Implants are more spherical in shape and have a smooth texture.

Anatomical implants: Implants have a narrower top and a broader base. These implants provide a more natural look because they are shaped like a natural breast and are also referred to as gummy bear implants.

Implant Texture

Surface Textures:

Textured implants: Textured implants have a rough surface that attaches to the breast tissue to keep the implant in place. Textured implants are essential for anatomical implants since they cannot rotate in the breast pocket.

Smooth implants: Smooth implants have a soft surface, allowing them to move naturally in the breast pocket.

Implant Profile:

Implant profile describes the base width of the implant in relation to the implant height (how much the implant projects from the chest wall).

Low profile implants have a wide diameter but do not project as far (ideal for women with broader chest walls).

Moderate profile implants have a smaller diameter than low profile implants but project further.

High profile implants have a narrow diameter and allow for significant projection (ideal for women with narrow chest walls).

Most of Dr. Kronowitz’s patients prefer textured, anatomical silicone implants because of their natural-looking results.

What Is the Breast Implant Procedure Like?

Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia and is a relatively fast procedure, usually lasting about an hour.

During this time, Dr. Kronowitz makes an incision and carefully places the agreed-upon implant according to the surgical treatment plan.

Where Will My Incisions Be Made?

An incision will be made along the inframammary fold. This is the crease below the breast where the breast meets the ribcage.

Where Will My Implants Be Placed?

During your consultation, you and Dr. Kronowitz will discuss the size, shape, and implant placement technique that will get you the desired results. Placement options include:

  • Subglandular placement: The breast pocket is created beneath the breast tissue but above the pectoral muscle. This placement is ideal for bodybuilders and weight lifters but may not be appropriate for patients with a minimal amount of natural breast tissue because the implant ridges may show.

Submuscular placement: The breast pocket is created under the breast tissue and the pectoral muscle. This placement provides a more natural look and feel but does require a more extended recovery period. While this placement can be ideal for most athletes, it is inappropriate for bodybuilders as pressure on the implant from the muscle may cause the implant to rupture.

Is There an Alternative to Breast Implants?

While breast implants are the most popular way to enhance breast volume and provide the most significant amount of breast enhancement, they are not the only way to increase breast fullness.

Fat transfer to the breasts is a multi-step procedure that uses liposuction to harvest fat cells from the abdomen, hips, thighs, or buttocks and transfers that fat to the breasts to add natural volume.

This technique is ideal for younger women and women who are looking for a subtle and natural-looking increase in breast fullness. This approach is also suitable for women who want to reduce stubborn fat elsewhere on their bodies while increasing the size of their breasts.

Some women feel more comfortable with this type of breast enlargement since the fat is autologous (coming from you) and not synthetic or foreign. There is no way for your body to reject your own fat and this technique is free of implant-related complications.

Alternatively, some women (usually those with very little natural breast tissue) choose to use fat grafting to the breast in addition to an implant as the grafted fat can help create an extra cushion around the implant, thereby reducing the possibility of implant visibility

Should I Combine My Breast Augmentation With a Breast Lift?

While some women choose breast augmentation to enlarge naturally small breasts, other women decide to undergo the procedure to replace the volume that was lost following pregnancy and nursing.

Women who choose breast augmentation after having children may also benefit from a breast lift to address breast ptosis (breast sagging).

Combining breast augmentation with a breast lift allows women to restore volume and elevate the breasts to a youthful position on the chest.

This combination can also benefit women who have lost a significant amount of weight as breasts can lose shape, volume, and firmness.

What Is Breast Augmentation Recovery Like?

Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure, and you can return home within a few hours of your surgery.

The breasts may be wrapped in a compression garment or surgical bra. This garment will reduce swelling, promote circulation, protect the incisions, and ensure that the implants settle in the correct position.

Bruising, swelling, and some discomfort are expected following breast augmentation. You can ease this pain with prescribed, over-the-counter pain medication, or pain pumps.

Most women feel recovered enough to return to work after one week but should avoid strenuous activity or lifting for at least four to six weeks.

How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost in Houston, TX?

Breast augmentation is a highly customized procedure, and the final cost of your breast augmentation will vary depending on that personalization. The implants selected, the implant placement, the techniques used, the potential need for breast lift, and factors like anesthesia and facility fees all contribute to the final price.
At Kronowitz Plastic Surgery, breast augmentation starts at $4,000. Price varies depending on selected breast implants. Dr. Kronowitz is the only plastic surgeon in Houston, TX to offer patients anatomical, shaped, silicon gel breast implants for breast augmentation. Once Dr. Kronowitz has developed your surgical plan, you will be provided a precise cost estimate.

When Will I See My Breast Augmentation Results?

Your results can be seen immediately following your breast augmentation; however, as there will be bruising and swelling, your results will continue to adjust as the bruising and swelling dissipate and the implants settle. Most women see their final results within a few months, which are not expected to change, barring significant weight fluctuations or complications with the implants.

Breast implants are not designed to last forever, and women may eventually need to undergo breast revision to replace old or damaged implants.

Results from breast augmentation with the fat transfer technique will be noticeably larger in the beginning, as extra fat is transferred into the breasts to compensate for the natural absorption that will occur.

Should I Combine Breast Enhancement Surgery With Another Procedure for a Mommy Makeover?

If you are finished having children, you can add liposuction to your breast augmentation, or any breast enhancement procedure, for a complete Mommy Makeover.

Today’s Mommy Makeovers can include breast augmentation, breast lift, and one or more of the following:

These surgical procedures are ideal for women who are done with childbirth and want to restore their more youthful appearance. Having children after many cosmetic surgeries can significantly impact their results.
