Facelift surgery is an effective and trusted cosmetic procedure that helps correct issues with facial skin to achieve a more rejuvenated and youthful facial aesthetic.
Am I a Candidate for Facelift Surgery?
Facelift surgery is ideal for women and men who experience age- and lifestyle-related cosmetic concerns on the lower two-thirds of the face (from the cheeks to the neck).
Ideal candidates are non-smoking individuals who are in good general health with realistic expectations about their results.

A facelift can benefit women and men who experience aesthetic concerns on the lower and midface, including:
- Wrinkles
- Fine lines

How Is Facelift Surgery Done?
Facelift surgery tightens and smoothes the skin by repositioning the underlying tissue, tightening muscles, and trimming loose skin.
Anesthesia ensures that patients do not experience any pain during the procedure. After the anesthesia is administered, Dr. Kronowitz will make incisions in the face to manipulate and tighten the facial tissue and muscles with internal sutures.
Excess skin will be excised, and the remaining skin will be pulled tight before the incisions are closed.
How Should I Prepare for Facelift Surgery?
One of the most important aspects of any cosmetic procedure is your consultation. At your facelift consultation, you will have a chance to meet with Dr. Kronowitz. At this meeting, Dr. Kronowitz will examine your condition to determine whether you are a good candidate.
During this meeting, you will discuss the following:
- Your concerns and goals
- Your surgical options
- Your medical history
- Any medications, drugs, or supplements that may affect the surgical or healing process
- Any questions you have about the procedure and/or recovery period
Additionally, photos will be taken, and a surgical plan will be established.
Before your facelift, you may be asked to complete lab testing or modify your medication and vitamin regimen. You should stop smoking (as well as using any nicotine products) at least six weeks prior to your procedure.
Additionally, you should avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements.
Where Are Facelift Incisions Made?
The incisions for your facelift surgery will be made on either side of the face within the temporal hairline. This placement ensures that the resulting scars will remain hidden by the hair and avoid any shift to the hairline. The specific length of the incisions will depend on the extent of correction needed.
How Long Does It Take to Recover From Facelift Surgery?
Facelift surgery is performed under anesthesia, so you will need someone to drive you home after your procedure.
You can expect to experience moderate to significant bruising and swelling during the initial days of your recovery. Any post-operative discomfort and pain can be remedied with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses.
Bandages will be placed over the incision sites to protect the area and aid in healing. Stitches are usually removed within 10 to 14 days after your procedure. During your facelift recovery, you should sleep on your back and refrain from any strenuous activities until Dr. Kronowitz clears you. Most patients can return to work and their normal activities after two weeks.
What Are the Risks Associated With Facelift Surgery?
Facelift surgery is an extremely safe cosmetic procedure, and complications are rare. However, as with any procedure, complications are possible and include the following:
- Negative reactions to anesthesia
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Fluid accumulation
- Prolonged wound healing
- Poor scarring/wound healing
- Numbness or changes in skin sensation
- Facial nerve injury
- Temporary or permanent hair loss at the incision sites
When Will I See My Facelift Results?
Because you will have significant bruising and swelling after your procedure, your facelift results will develop and improve over the following weeks. Your final results can take up to six months to settle in.
After your facelift, you can look forward to a more youthful and rejuvenated facial aesthetic that can help you feel more comfortable and confident with your appearance. Your results are expected to be long lasting, but additional aging will occur over time.
You can prolong your results by maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and a good skin care routine.
How Much Is Facelift Surgery in Houston, TX?
Like any plastic surgery, facelift cost varies between patients. This is because this surgery is customized to each patient’s need and whether other surgical techniques are combined with the facelift.
Cost factors include anesthesia fees, surgeon’s fees, facility fees, pre-surgical tests, post-surgical medications, and dressings.
Dr. Kronowitz performs all of his plastic surgery procedures in state-of-the-art surgical facilities or hospitals.
What Procedures Can Be Combined With Facelift?
While a facelift can give you stunning results, many patients combine their procedure with other facial procedures, including neck lift surgery, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), and brow lift surgery (forehead lift).
Why Should I Consider Combining Other Procedures With My Facelift?
Because facelift surgery addresses only the lower two-thirds of the face, women and men who suffer from age- and lifestyle-related issues in the upper third of the face (from the cheeks to the hairline) will require additional procedures, including blepharoplasty and/or brow lift surgery.
One of the main reasons for combining procedures is to achieve a more balanced appearance that looks natural.
