Mommy Makeover
in Houston, TX
Restore Your Body. Reclaim Your Confidence. Redefine What’s Possible.
The joys of motherhood can sometimes be muted by the realization that the process has changed your physical shape. Fat starts to collect in places that it never has before, breasts begin to sag, and loose skin develops on the abdomen.
Separate plastic surgery procedures, such as breast implants, fat enhancement, or a breast lift, liposuction, and tummy tuck, can address these areas; however, since they can be performed together, they are often combined to form a Mommy Makeover.
At Kronowitz Plastic Surgery in Houston, Texas, world-renowned board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Steven J. Kronowitz offers customized Mommy Makeover procedures to help women restore, reclaim, and refine their bodies with natural-looking, artistic results. Dr. Kronowitz brings his decades of surgical precision, aesthetic expertise, and reconstructive artistry to every Mommy Makeover he performs.

A Mommy Makeover is a collection of surgical procedures that address the areas most affected by pregnancy and nursing—typically the breasts and abdomen but often extending to other parts of the body as well. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, Dr. Kronowitz’s Mommy Makeovers are tailored to each woman’s anatomy, goals, and lifestyle, making it one of the most rewarding and transformative procedures he offers.
Common Areas Treated:
- Breasts (lifting, enlarging, or reducing)
- Abdomen (removing loose skin, repairing abdominal muscles)
- Flanks & waist (body contouring and fat reduction)
- Buttocks and thighs (optional sculpting or fat transfer)

- Lifted breast projection
- A flatter belly
- A slimmer waist

Who Is an Ideal Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
Mommy Makeover surgery is performed when women are unhappy with their physical body contours after having children. This procedure is designed to minimize or erase the visible effects of pregnancy and childbirth. It is ideal for women who are done having children since any additional pregnancies may reverse the changes.
While most women who consider this procedure have experienced childbirth, it is not a prerequisite. Any woman who would like to target these areas can qualify for this combination of surgical techniques, regardless of their parental status or age. Mommy Makeover surgery is also commonly chosen following significant weight loss to address laxity, hanging skin, and excess fat.
You may be a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover if:
- You are in good overall health
- You do not smoke
- You have completed your family and are not planning future pregnancies
- You are at or near your ideal weight and have maintained that weight
- You are no longer breastfeeding
- You have realistic expectations of the results you can achieve
Dr. Kronowitz offers in-depth consultations to help you understand what’s possible, what’s recommended, and what will give you the best long-term results.
How Is a Mommy Makeover Performed?
Your surgery is designed to fit your unique needs and goals. Your procedures will be performed simultaneously to reduce surgery and recovery times. Mommy Makeover surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia at the finest surgical hospitals in Houston with expert anesthesiologists.
Customizing Your Mommy Makeover Procedure
No two bodies are the same, and no two Mommy Makeovers should be either. Dr. Kronowitz creates a customized plan for each patient based on her personal concerns, priorities, and anatomy. Below are the procedures most often included in a Mommy Makeover procedure:
What is breast enhancement surgery?
The breasts often develop premature sagging and volume loss after childbirth due to rapid size fluctuations and breastfeeding. Hormonal changes, weight fluctuations, and breastfeeding can lead to deflation, volume loss, sagging, or asymmetry in the breasts.
Breast enhancement surgery is performed to restore youthfulness and fullness to the breasts. One or multiple breast surgery techniques may be performed depending on your goals and the current condition of your breasts.
Your breast enhancement options may include one or more of the following breast enhancement surgeries:
- Breast augmentation restores lost volume to the breast by inserting saline or silicone implants. Breast enhancement can also be performed by performing fat transfer to the breasts. This augmentation technique increases breast fullness without using implants. Breast augmentation increases the size and improves the shape of the breasts. It is chosen by women with naturally small breasts or women who have lost volume during the childbearing process.
- Breast lift surgery elevates sagging breasts by removing excess skin, tightening glandular tissue, and repositioning the nipple. This procedure is commonly chosen by women who wish to restore firmer, perkier breasts.
- Breast reduction surgery reduces breast volume to relieve physical discomfort and improve breast proportion. This procedure removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin to create a lighter, more lifted, and more manageable breast shape. Breast reduction is often selected by women whose breasts have become disproportionately large due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight fluctuations, leading to neck and back pain, skin irritation, or difficulty with physical activity. In addition to relieving symptoms, it can dramatically improve breast aesthetics, posture, and confidence.
Dr. Kronowitz may also recommend a hybrid approach, combining augmentation and lifting in a “single procedure” for a perkier, fuller silhouette. Dr. Kronowitz will often recommend anatomically shaped silicone gel breast implants that are an excellent option for Mommy Makeover patients desiring breast enhancement.
What is liposuction?
Even with a balanced diet and regular exercise, many women find that stubborn pockets of fat develop and collect in various regions of the body following pregnancy and childbirth. Liposuction can target these areas precisely and remove unwanted fatty deposits by suctioning away fat cells. This technique can be applied to unwanted fat nearly anywhere on the body. Dr. Kronowitz uses the latest technology in liposuction equipment, which combines well with his artistry and meticulous attention to detail.
Targeted zones may include:
- Abdomen
- Waist
- Love handles
- Hips
- Bra rolls
- Thighs
- Upper arms
A small tube is inserted beneath the skin and into fatty areas, while a powerful medical vacuum is used to remove the excess fat cells. This procedure is less invasive than a tummy tuck and requires only tiny incisions, resulting in scars that fade over time to become virtually invisible.
Dr. Kronowitz may also incorporate high-definition liposuction techniques, fat transfer (such as a Brazilian Butt Lift), or even gluteal implants to balance your proportions and create a smooth, hourglass figure.
What is tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty)?
During pregnancy, the uterus enlarges to accommodate your growing baby, resulting in stretched-out skin around the belly and weakened abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck smooths and sculpts the midsection by removing excess skin and fat.
In addition to creating a slimmer, more contoured abdomen, a tummy tuck can correct diastasis recti (the physical separation of the abdominal muscles. It can also improve the appearance of an unsightly C-section scar by incorporating it into the tummy tuck scar. When performed by a plastic surgeon, the resulting scar is far less noticeable.
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) involves:
- Removal of excess stretched skin
- Tightening of separated or weakened abdominal muscles
- Repositioning and reshaping the navel for natural aesthetics
- Optional 360° lipo-contouring of the waist, flanks, or lower back
Dr. Kronowitz creates a flatter, firmer abdomen with sculpted definition while placing incisions very low on the abdomen where they’re easily hidden under undergarments or swimwear.
Dr. Kronowitz always performs liposuction of the mons pubis region—the area surrounding the vagina—to allow for a slim transition from the new tighter abdomen that leaves a slender and beautiful transition. There is no additional charge for this procedure; it is “included” with your tummy tuck.
Dr. Kronowitz does not require drains for tummy tuck surgery, so “your recovery” will be significantly less painful. Instead, Dr. Kronowitz will order a custom compression garment for you, which will also provide you with additional postoperative comfort and support.
What other procedures can be included in a Mommy Makeover?
Breast and belly surgeries are most commonly performed in a Mommy Makeover to restore a more youthful figure. However, laxity can also occur on the hips, buttocks, lower back, and thighs.
Additional areas can benefit when the following procedures are included:
- Labiaplasty to tighten a loose or protruding labia often caused or worsened by childbirth.
- Thigh lift to recontour the thighs for a slimmer and smoother appearance using Dr. Kronowitz’s innovative hidden inner thigh incision and specialized instruments. Dr. Kronowitz is one of the world’s specialists who performs thigh lifting along with a tummy tuck during the same surgical procedure.
- Lower body lift to treat loose skin on the hips, buttocks, and lower back. Dr. Kronowitz is one of the world’s specialists who also performs a lower body lift along with tummy tuck surgery during the same surgical procedure.
Although these procedures are not typically considered part of the Mommy Makeover, they can be beneficial for certain candidates.
Whatever your needs, Dr. Kronowitz works closely with you to ensure you’re happy with the final results.
Preparing for Your Mommy Makeover Journey
Consultation & Planning
During your initial visit to our Houston office, Dr. Kronowitz will take the time to listen to you, examine your condition, and create a personalized surgical plan tailored to your goals. Crisalix Advanced 3D imaging, utilizing a VR headset, will be used to simulate your potential outcomes and support informed decision-making.
Surgery Day
Depending on your unique combination of procedures, your Mommy Makeover may take anywhere from three to six hours and is typically performed under general anesthesia in our fully accredited surgical suite. Safety, precision, and aesthetics guide every step.
What Will My Mommy Makeover Recovery Be Like?
Since the Mommy Makeover is performed as an outpatient procedure, you can return home to start your recovery within a few hours of the surgery. You will need to have someone present to drive you home and stay with you for one to two days to help with household chores, cooking, childcare, and pets.
You can expect the following during your recovery:
- Compression Garments: Most patients return home wearing supportive compression garments wrapped around all treated areas, which protect the incisions, promote increased blood circulation, and avoid seroma formation. These garments will also help control bruising, swelling, and soreness. You will continue to wear your compression garment 24/7 (except when showering), typically for six to eight weeks, depending on the extent of your procedure and Dr. Kronowitz’s instructions, to help minimize swelling and support and shape your newly sculpted midsection.
- Surgical Drains: Dr. Kronowitz does not use surgical drains.
- Prescription Medication: You will be given a prescription for pain medication to handle any postoperative discomfort.
- Bruising and Swelling: You can expect bruising, swelling, and some tightness and soreness in your midsection; however, these side effects typically dissipate within one to two weeks. Any discomfort can be alleviated with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication.
- Time Off From Work: Because the Mommy Makeover addresses multiple areas, you should expect to take 10–14 days off from work. Most patients can return to work and their regular, day-to-day activities around two weeks after their Mommy Makeover, especially if their procedures involve abdominal muscle repair or extensive liposuction.
- Activities and Exercise: Light activities can usually be resumed within two to three weeks, but patients should avoid any vigorous exercise or lifting/carrying anything over 10 pounds for at least six weeks or until cleared by Dr. Kronowitz.
Your Mommy Makeover results will continue to improve over the next three to six months as the swelling resolves and tissues settle. The most important thing to remember during the recovery period is to follow Dr. Kronowitz’s postoperative instructions to ensure optimal results. Dr. Kronowitz and his team provide attentive follow-up and are always available to answer your questions and support your recovery.
When Will I See My Mommy Makeover Results?
While your results will begin to develop immediately following your surgery, moderate to significant bruising and swelling may obscure the quality of those results. Most patients will see the majority of their bruising and swelling subside after a few weeks, but some swelling may persist for up to six months. Your results will gradually take shape over that time.
The results of your Mommy Makeover will be long lasting as long as you maintain a stable weight. Weight gain or future pregnancies will alter the quality of the results and may require an additional surgical procedure.
A Mommy Makeover with Dr. Kronowitz doesn’t just transform your body—it can transform how you feel in your body. Most women report increased confidence, a wider range of wardrobe options, and renewed joy in their appearance. By keeping a stable weight and healthy lifestyle, your Mommy Makeover results can last for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mommy Makeover
How long does a Mommy Makeover take?
The time it takes to complete your Mommy Makeover depends on the procedures used during your surgery and the extent of correction needed to produce the desired results. Typically, a Mommy Makeover takes between three and five hours to complete.
How painful is a Mommy Makeover?
You are likely to experience some discomfort, including tenderness at the incision sites, nausea due to the effects of anesthesia, and overall soreness. Pain will subside over the first few days and can be controlled with medication.
Will I have scars after my Mommy Makeover?
All of the techniques used in this comprehensive surgical procedure are invasive and require incisions. Therefore, there will be scars. Fortunately, these scars are placed in inconspicuous locations, and plastic surgeons are trained in advanced techniques for closing incisions to minimize postoperative scarring.
While there is no way to prevent scars, you can help minimize their appearance by keeping the healing incisions out of the sun (which can cause the pigment to darken) and not returning to physical activity too soon (which can separate and widen the incisions). Additionally, topical scar treatments can be applied once the incisions have closed and healed. No one wants to have a scar; however, most women have reported that the scars are worthwhile trade-offs for the body contouring results they achieve.
What are the potential risks of a Mommy Makeover?
While Dr. Kronowitz takes every precaution to ensure a safe and successful outcome, all surgical procedures carry some risk. Potential complications may include infection, bleeding, delayed healing, fluid accumulation, or unsatisfactory aesthetic outcomes. These are rare and will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
Does insurance cover a Mommy Makeover?
Because a Mommy Makeover is considered an elective cosmetic procedure, it is typically not covered by health insurance. Procedures performed solely for aesthetic improvement—such as breast augmentation, liposuction, and tummy tuck—are classified as self-pay.
We also offer flexible financing options through CareCredit® to make your transformation more accessible.
