Liposuction in Houston, TX

Women develop stubborn fat pockets in response to genetics, pregnancy, hormonal changes, and the natural aging process. While some of these fat pockets can be reduced with diet and exercise, others are resistant to any form of natural weight loss.

Liposuction is a body sculpting procedure that permanently eliminates fat cells and restores tighter contours and slimmer physiques.

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?

Many women consider liposuction after pregnancy or weight loss to reduce or eliminate the fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. Candidates for liposuction do not smoke, are close to their ideal weight, have no medical conditions that could affect their ability to heal, and have realistic expectations of their results.

Liposuction is not weight loss and should not be used to replace a healthy diet and exercise program.

Where Can Liposuction Be Performed?

Liposuction can be performed on nearly any region of the body that has fatty deposits. These areas include the:

  • Abdomen
  • Inner thighs
  • Outer thighs
  • Hips
  • Flanks
  • Buttocks
  • Back
  • Upper arm

How Is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction restores slim contours by suctioning away unwanted fat cells.

Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia for your comfort and safety.

Small incisions are made in the treatment area, and sterile saline is injected that causes the fat cells to swell—this allows for the easier removal of the cells.

A hollow tube—the cannula—is inserted through the incisions, and the unwanted fat cells are suctioned out.

How Long Will My Liposuction Surgery Take?

The exact length of your liposuction procedure is dependent on several factors, including the size of the treatment area, the number of locations being treated, and whether you are combining your liposuction with any other procedures. However, it usually takes three to four hours for a liposuction procedure to be completed.

How Many Areas Can Liposuction Treat in One Session?

Though there is no single and definite answer to this question, as it really depends on the patient and size of the treatment areas, most liposuction procedures are limited to three or four different locations. This is to help protect the patient’s safety and minimize recovery time.

Should I Combine Liposuction With Another Body Contouring Surgery?

Liposuction is performed with nearly all body contouring procedures to reduce and shape the desired treatment area.

While liposuction can remove excess fat, it cannot tighten or eliminate sagging skin. This is why liposuction is not always a viable alternative to body contouring procedures like tummy tuck surgery or a lower body lift.

Patients with excess fat and loose skin would benefit from liposuction and a skin excision procedure.

What Are the Benefits of Combining My Liposuction With Other Procedures?

In addition to even more dynamic results, combining your liposuction with other procedures can minimize the overall cost and recovery time, since you will be having your surgeries and recovering from them at the same time.

What Is Fat Transfer?

Dr. Kronowitz uses fat transfer in many of his cosmetic procedures. Fat transfer is a multi-step process that moves fat from one area of the body to another.

Fat is commonly added to the face, breasts, and buttocks to restore or create additional volume and fullness.

Since the first step in fat transfer is to remove donor fat with liposuction, fat transfer is a natural combination procedure.

If you have fat that you do not want and also wish to increase the size of your breasts or butt, or restore lost volume to your face, fat transfer may be for you.

Can Men Have Liposuction Surgery?

Yes. Liposuction is just as safe and effective for men as it is for women. Liposuction is a procedure that can help anyone who is struggling with stubborn fat that doesn’t seem to go away, no matter how healthy the lifestyle.

How Long Is My Liposuction Recovery?

Liposuction is an outpatient procedure, and you can return home shortly after your anesthesia wears off.

You can expect to be sore, bruised, and swollen. Your treatment areas may be wrapped with compression garments/dressings that will facilitate the healing process by reducing the swelling and promoting circulation. You can expedite your recovery further by taking leisurely walks—you do not want to overexert your body too soon as this can have the opposite effect.

Most patients require one week off of work and their day-to-day activities, and four to six weeks away from any strenuous activity or exercise.

How Painful Will My Liposuction Be?

During the actual procedure, you will be under general anesthesia, which means that you will not feel any pain. After the procedure, you will likely feel some discomfort. Any pain you may feel can be alleviated by medication and will dissipate over time.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

At Kronowitz Plastic Surgery, the cost of your liposuction of abdomen will start at $4,000. This amount may vary significantly depending on the number of treatment areas and the volume of fat that is reduced.

Liposuction is highly customized to you, and the total cost of your treatment will reflect this personalization. You will be provided with an accurate cost estimate during your consultation with Dr. Kronowitz that will include the surgeon’s fees, facility fees, anesthesia fees, pre-surgical tests, post-surgical dressings, and any combined treatments.

When Will I See My Liposuction Results?

The results of your liposuction treatment will be noticeable immediately after the surgery and will improve over the following weeks as the swelling and bruising subside.

Since moderate to significant bruising and swelling may be experienced following the procedure, patients should not be disheartened if their results are not visible immediately.

The fat that is removed with liposuction is permanently eliminated from the body, and therefore, patients can expect to experience long-lasting results. These results must be maintained with a healthy diet and exercise program. Any significant weight gain may alter the shape of your contours and negatively impact the quality of your results.

Will I Have Any Scars?

Though it is a minimally invasive procedure, liposuction surgery still requires incisions. These incisions, by nature, will create scars. However, one of the positives about liposuction is that the incisions are so small that the resulting scars are not very visible. Additionally, these scars will fade over time.

Can I Have Liposuction Surgery More Than Once?

While you can undergo liposuction surgery more than once in a specific area, it is not something that is highly recommended. Multiple surgeries in the same location can lead to risks, including scarring, contour irregularities, and infection. Additionally, a second procedure will usually not offer the same results as the first. That is why it is so important to maintain a healthy lifestyle after your liposuction procedure.

However, if you have liposuction surgery and then subcutaneous fat returns in the same area because of life events, liposuction can be used again to remove those new fat deposits.
